Because I used to sit in cafes and people-watch (non-creepily.)

They're usually the perfect spot for people watching and drawing. Sometimes little drawing because people notice you staring at them and that quickly becomes uncomfortable for everyone involved.
But I think being able to describe your surroundings--and people-- around you is a tricky part of writing. And frankly, I suck at this. So Ill try to be observant without being odd. Plus, I work in a coffee shop--I interact with people on a regular basis! Most of them are usually worth writing about, too.

Im sitting across from a pinched-face man in his late twenties, early thirties wearing a bright green shirt with the cartoon-screen print of an elephant on it. It says ELEPHANT under the picture. I really want that shirt.

The couple on the couch has made eye contact with me more than once. I don't notice anything about them other than the tattoos on the man's forearms. One is an old-style carnivalesque design of text. I can't read it from this distance, but I really like that style. They alternate between affectionate glances or gestures and then completely ignoring each other and tending to their phones. The woman took her shoes off when she sat down, and for some reason this bothers me.

A table of loud late-teenage-ish girls just sat down. They trickled in like mud on your boots that you track through the house before you realize the mess.
They're all wearing short skirts.

Couple on the couch. I recognize them...regulars. The girl with long hair and wild eyebrows is napping on the boy with the raggedy t-shirt and hair of equal length. He looks like the type who lives in his video games, very awkward and quiet to the point of inaudible. But nice.
(except he has skater shoes which could suggest that he's just a sloppy stoner of the nerd-variety).
I remember the girl because she bought a lemonade once with $2 worth of pennies, and she was extremely apologetic the whole time. she also has smoker's-teeth and I don't like that.

There's a strange ginger-man behind me who's been here longer than I have. The evidence is in the debris on his table: three Hop Devils, two large coffee mugs, scattered papers, and two books. He has one of those mustaches that curls up at the ends--the kind you grow out just to be able to twirl it when you're bored or want to look pensive. I would give him a monocle if I had one.

Elephant guy is setting up at the stage...I hope it's good, whatever it is. The band last night was really good--two singer-song writer types from San Fran. I really liked their sound.
I still want his shirt.
