the L- word! and a culmination of things
In light of the 500 MAG visits to the Paint Made flesh exhibit, my participation in "boy talk" almost every day, annndd other current personal dilemmas, Ive been thinking a lot about sexuality and representation in general.
I just find it a little irritating how quickly someone slaps a label on you. Everything is black and white, accepted or tabboo, right or wrong. And I just don't think it's that easy.
Apparently I read "gay" to a lot of people, people that don't even know me. I find this so interesting, so I have to ask why that is. What warrants that? What does that even look like? I mean, yes there are constructed stereotypes, but Im hoping/assuming i dont fit any of those, so what else is there?
Maybe it's that L tattoo I have on my forehead? Yea, that must be it. Good investment.
Honestly..I find it kind of nice to "read" as something--to have noticeable attributes that hopefully extend beyond superficial physicality or something--but it's so hypocritical for you to throw out this notion of me and then neglect it or disregard it at your next convenience (when or if it actually becomes relevant).
I dont really know what Im trying to say, or make it sound angry, Im just really find it interesting how we see and judge each other without any basis. We all do it...
Personally, I think I'm fine with the belief that people are capable of forming genuine connections. It might take on different forms with different people, but it's such a beautiful thing when it happens. And it extends far beyond any label you would ever want to put on it.
Hmm...thats the end of that. Now on to more frivolous things. like the drawing of a panda bear i've been working on for 20 minutes...why, I have no idea.
