On Life in the 585
Oh, Rochester. What a strange paradox.
The blend of depressingly cold and 'small town' feel/problems mixed with the really creative, alternative, "local movement" feel. There are things going on here, no doubt, but it still somehow feels limited more often than not.
It's a weird place. But I also think it serves a purpose for a lot of people as they grow as individuals. Not to say that it's necessary to stay here forever, there will be a time when you leave (and probably should leave), but I think you need to take comfort in the fact that you're doing what you need to do while you're here and building up for the 'next big thing.'
In a weird way, I think Rochester is necessary for some of us. It's necessary solace, but more importantly, I think because it's so frustrating sometimes, it keeps pushing us forward.
Don't get down on yourself for being here. When you need to leave, you will.
